Rowley receives statewide award for EPIC work

The Minnesota Habilitation Coalition has named Neil Rowley, who directs the Life Enrichment Program for EPIC Enterprises, the recipient of this year's Direct Support Professional Award. The statewide award recognizes Rowley's efforts to develop EPIC's Life Enrichment Program into a central element of the organization's services. The Dundas-based nonprofit EPIC provides services to and work opportunities for area adults with developmental disabilities.
“The EPIC staff has a magical combination of enthusiasm and experience," says Rowley, who has been at EPIC since 2005. "It allows us to create all sorts of activities and fun, and I simply tap into that collective consciousness."
Life Enrichment aims to enhance EPIC clients' experiences through visits to and volunteer opportunities with area businesses and organizations. It also brings visits to EPIC by musicians, pet owners and other area residents with talents they can share. "Part of EPIC's mission is to have the people we support participate actively in the broader community," explains Executive Director Linda Hibbard. "Neil has been a leader in making this happen for the individuals involved in our Life Enrichment Program, including people with significant barriers that often exclude them from meaningful community participation. We're thrilled that MHC has recognized Neil's commitment, enthusiasm and accomplishments," she says.
