Kathakali, South Indian Classical Dance-Drama Sunday September 28, 2014 3:00 p.m. UALR Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall |
Kathakali is an Indian dance drama by V. Kaladharan, K. Shanmukhan and K. Sukumaran showcasing India’s highly stylized classical dance and drama. Kathakali combines dancing, acting, vocal music, percussion and costumes in one art form dating back to 17th century India. Kaladharan and Shanmukhan will present selected scenes from prominent Kathakali plays. Kaladharan will explain the story and context, and then Shanmukhan will perform each scene. Sukumaran will present the costuming and makeup for the performance.

Winner of 2013 Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artists Competition
Russian guitarist Anton Baranov is a prizewinner of more than 15 prestigious international competitions, including the Koblenz Guitar Competition, Andrés Segovia Competition, Agustín Barrios Competition, Robert Vidal Competition, and Pittaluga Guitar Competition. At the height of his young career, he won both the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition and the Francisco Tárrega Competition in 2013. Known for his daring interpretation and innovative programming, Baranov graduated from St. Petersburg State Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory with grants from the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Russian Performing |

Trevor Wye studied the flute privately with Geoffrey Gilbert and the celebrated Marcel Moyse. He was a freelance orchestral and chamber music player on the London scene for many years and made several solo recordings, notably on his specialist instrument, the flute d’amour, which he reintroduced to modern times.

Artspree is a member of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters and the Southwest Association of Presenters . Patrons desiring disability accommodations of any kind should contact the Artspree office at least two weeks before the scheduled event. Students must show current ID when getting tickets. Students are eligible for but not guaranteed tickets, as limited numbers are available, especially for more popular events. Children under the age of 6 years are not admitted to Artspree.
