Proposition: "soft" full-screen for OSX

Currently, I think that the full-screen mode for OSX is not a good solution for distributed apps.
Note that it is just fine for installations, when you're the owner of the machine. Regarding distributed apps, the problems are:
1) If something is going wrong, the only options for users is to reboot. This is pretty aggressive and users may in turn blacklist your app and any future ones.
2) It is not possible to use cmd-Tab in order to switch to another app, neither it is possible to get feedback when adjusting volume, etc. This is problematic in term of user-experience.
3) It is not consistent with the Windows version. On XP at least, it is possible to use ctrl-Tab etc.
What's your opinion?
P.S. One of the possibilities I'm planning to check is using [NSScreen toggleFullScreen] (restricted to 10.7+)
