Second Life creator preparing to launch a physics-based world builder.
In Second Life, users build relationships. In Linden Lab's just announced next project, Patterns, players build structures. Think of it as Minecraft, but with triangle-shaped resources to gather instead of blocks. And in Patterns, players won't have to worry about Creepers and Zombies, they'll be challenged by real-world physics.
"Explore caverns and valleys, while you harvest substances with real world densities," Linden Lab states. "Build large scale structures that reach the sky or bridges that traverse chasms. Challenge real-world physics to see which creations will tumble -- or withstand -- the power of gravity."
Like Minecraft, Patterns will first launch in pre-alpha form called Genesis Release. It will sell for roughly $10 and grant early adopters free access to all updates and the full release. Interested? Keep an eye on the Patterns website, Linden Lab could launch Genesis Release as early as tomorrow.
