Innovation and management thereof has been the core focus since the first CIP FORUM in 2001. In the aftermath of a global recession, it is now time to look forward and discuss possibilities to harness innovation to secure economic growth. The New Wealth of Nations will to a large extent depend on the interplay between public and private actors contributing to regional entrepreneurial ecosystems and their increased connectedness.
To support increasingly collaborative forms of innovative value creation, CIP FORUM 2011 presents CIP Dialogues; an arena where opinions can be voiced and new ideas and solutions can be discussed. CIP Dialogues will center on the importance of a new infrastructure adapted to knowledge-based business with a strong focus on the development challenges faced by nations. The arguments will focus on the role of intellectual property in innovation and economic development, the capabilities of universities in nurturing the knowledge economy and on how established industry takes on more collaborative roles.
Knowledge is now considered to be the new wealth of nations by many, but what does this really mean in relation to the future of universities, industry and society? How will traditional universities and industry transform to meet the new demands placed on them by an increasingly globalized and competitive world. What role will the nation state play for wealth and welfare in a society where knowledge and capital flows across borders? In essence then, who will carry the responsibility for economic and social development in the knowledge economy?
The CIP Dialogues highlight questions that are on everyone’s mind, divulging the opportunities and doubts about the future of the knowledge economy. Join the leading policy makers, industrialists, university leaders, and scholars that are shaping this future at CIP FORUM 2011.

How does the shift from a product to service driven economy affect the future of industrial firms and the regions where they operate? The focus of CIP Dialogue 1 will be to discuss and investigate challenges for an industry, used to driving economic development in an industrial economy, to finds its new role in a knowledge economy.

What does the wealth of nations mean in a knowledge economy and what is the role of the national government? In an age of multi-national companies and born global start-ups, can nations really develop and appropriate wealth in the same way? When valuable knowledge is held by stakeholders across multiple borders how is the strength of the nation state affected and how does it differ in developed, emerging, and developing economies? The focus of CIP Dialogue 3 will be to discuss to what extent the nation state is capable of building a sustainable knowledge society.

How has the role of intellectual property changed from the industrial to the knowledge economy? Is the effect of IP dependent on the IP system per se or on how it is practiced? Will IP determine the haves and have-nots in the knowledge economy? Can we count on market forces to balance the role of IP in wealth and welfare creation effectively? CIP Dialogue 4 will address the aforementioned questions and focus on the extent to which intellectual property impedes global innovation and economic development.
