Familiar Things — Now In Print!

Hey everyone! This is just a post to let you know that a physical, paperback edition of Familiar Things is now available for purchase! And isn’t it a stunner? You can purchase your copy on CreateSpace or Amazon. And I’d like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who cheered this process on, cheered me on, or is simply interested in my book and is planning on clicking one of those two links so they can pick up a copy. You guys are amazing. And, on that note… gosh, how do I even talk about this? It feels incredibly awkward to me. Anyway, it’s come to my attention that a few people were waiting to buy the physical book because they were under the impression that, as physical books tend to be more expensive than ebooks, doubtless this...

Familiar Things Launch Giveaway!

Whee, my book is out in the world! Well–partially. Unfortunately, my plans for getting the physical copy of Familiar Things out at the same time as the digital copy fell through. Entirely my fault, I’m afraid. Last week I caught a nasty cold somewhere between New York and Seattle, and it really knocked me for a loop. I’ve been propping myself up for a few hours each day to ease the ebook launch ahead, but I’m afraid I’ve had no time to work on formatting the hardcopy. Now that I’m feeling better (read: less drugged-up and stupid), I promise to get right back to work on that. (I did watch a ton of movies while I was down, though. Which was fun. I alternated between, “Ooh, deformed hero!” and “Ooh, pretty...

Bloggers–Interested in Reviewing Familiar Things?

Then step right up! This is the official blogger review copy (BRC) thread featuring the official BRC request form! I’m abusing the bold and italic keys, I know. But this is important information. Why? Because I love bloggers, and I want to make sure every interested blogger receives a copy of my latest book. To do that efficiently, this time ’round I’m requiring that all BRC requests go through the form on this page. I will not be answering review copy requests received any other way. No Twitter PMs, no Facebook messages–not even the other contact forms on this site. If you don’t use this specific form, I’m afraid I won’t be able to answer your request. I’m not trying to be stingy or make the process...

Mystery Project Title and Cover Reveal!

spacer

I’m so excited to finally bring you the title, cover, and synopsis reveal for that Mystery Project I’ve been nattering on about for the past few weeks! (Seriously—I’m electric with excitement. Nervous, but in a good way. I think I understand that whole “my book is my baby” thing that other authors always talk about. I never felt that way with my other books. Not once. I only felt tongue-numbing fear!) I’m currently on vacation out in Seattle, visiting my boyfriend’s family—so I’m going to keep this short and sweet. During the next few weeks I’ll be talking more about my inspiration for this book/series. Since the front cover is finalized (work on the spine and back cover is ongoing), I can also confirm that the ebook release date will be:   October 28th,...

Sooooo Sewing

spacer

(Get it? Because so many sewing blogs and shops and accessory supply companies call themselves Sew Creative! or Sew Beautiful! or Sew… never mind. I’ll be over here. In the corner. Wondering why nobody else understands my comedy genius.) So, I mentioned before how I’ve been doing a lot of sewing and crafting during my writing hiatus. I’ve been sewing since I was a teenager—or rather, continuously teaching myself how to sew. I’m far from adept, and I learn something new each time I put scissors to cloth. Still, it’s a very rewarding hobby, and I’m getting to the point where a larger and larger percentage of my casual, everyday wardrobe is handmade. Although crafting definitely serves as yet another outlet for my creativity, it also acts as a cheap form...

Mystery Project Post #2 — The Contemporary Soundtrack

And here we go–the contemporary, chapter-by-chapter soundtrack from the Mystery Project! I have to admit, one of the biggest reasons I wanted to play around with a 50s-themed universe is the music. I was raised on this music. With few exceptions, I didn’t hear any modern music until I was a tween or early teenager. It was just an accident of birth. It was what my parents listened to. When I got to college, I was appalled that none of the other students knew who Gene Pitney was (he’s my favorite singer ever, and one of the greatest songwriters of all time). Or Roy Orbison. Or Brenda Lee. I mean, I was immersed in this stuff. These songs are my world. Although the first story in the Mystery Project series takes place between 1958 and ’59, I...

Mystery Project Post #1 — The Modern Soundtrack

Okay, so… that post before? Where I was like, “Sci-fi, coming at you!” I kinda lied. But only because I was mixed-up and shy. I actually have an entire book… finished. Except for the fact that I’m currently tearing the last three chapters apart. It’s the first in a young adult trilogy, and it’s done. The second two books are plotted. The characters are fresh. Thing is, it’s very different from the Dearly series. Oh, it’s still My Thing, through and through. Huge fanged beasts, intelligent insects, pretty dresses. But it’s also softer. Sweeter. It doesn’t have as high a body count. And it’s sort of a pet project, more than anything. It is literally a world I invented to escape into while I was...
