Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence Of Gold Nanoclusters, Mahdi Hesari Western University

Electrogenerated Chemiluminescence Of Gold Nanoclusters, Mahdi Hesari

University of Western Ontario - Electronic Thesis and Dissertation Repository

A series of monodispersed AuNCs including Au144(SR)60, Au38(SR)24 and Au25(SR)18z (z =1-, 0 and 1+, SR=2-phenylethanethiol) were prepared. All these nanoclusters showed molecule-like optical and electrochemical properties. These two features are essential for an electrogenerated chemiluminescence or electrochemiluminescence (ECL) study. The Au144(SR)60 showed a small HOMO-LUMO gap determined by electrochemistry. No ECL light was seen in the annihilation process, while NIR ECL was observed with tri-n- propylamine (TPrA) (Chapter 2). ECL was highly efficient in the Au38(SR)24/TPrA co- reactant system. This nanocluster also showed ECL emission with benzoyl ...

An Analysis Of The Patterns Of Crime And Socioeconomic Status Visualized Through Self-Organized Maps, Jason Carlin Kaufman University of Tennessee, Knoxville

An Analysis Of The Patterns Of Crime And Socioeconomic Status Visualized Through Self-Organized Maps, Jason Carlin Kaufman

Masters Theses

This work is research to explore the association of spatial patterns between crime and socioeconomic status (SES) through the use of self-organized maps (SOM). It had been found that the spatial patterns of crime could be associated with those of socioeconomic, and this work sought to further these analyses in order to better understand how crime patterns and SES were related. To explore this association, patterns of crime and SES were examined in three cities: Nashville, TN; Portland, OR; and Tucson, AZ. Three SOMs were used in each city: one to analyze the patterns of crime, a second to analyze ...

A Math 8 Unit In Scientific Notation Aligned To The New York State Common Core And Learning Standards, Jessica K. Griffin

Education and Human Development Master's Theses

In response to the implementation of new Common Core State Standards (CCSS), this curriculum project was designed to help teachers in the transition to the new standards. The curriculum project will be referred to as a unit plan throughout the paper. The unit plan on Scientific Notation, for the eighth grade mathematics curriculum, is aligned to the New York State Common Core and Learning Standards for Mathematics (NYSCCLSM). The unit plan addresses mathematical modeling, Mathematical Practice Standard 4. The unit plan may provide a way in which teachers can work towards the Common Core State Standards Initiative’s goal to ...

Faculty Sponser: Timothy Henry, Computer Science and Statistics

Technology has become an essential part of Americans’ daily lives, affecting our communications, mail, relationships, the management of our bills and finances. As we have become more immersed in the benefits and capabilities of these constantly developing technologies, children as well as adults have become avid users. Laptops and cell phones are specially developed for preteens. Software and game companies have been targeting children in their game development. Video games have become common entertainment for children as young as four. Children today can ...

Common Core 4th Grade Environmental Science Lesson Plans For California Teachers, Gillian Schoenfeld California Polytechnic State University

Common Core 4th Grade Environmental Science Lesson Plans For California Teachers, Gillian Schoenfeld

Natural Resources Management and Environmental Sciences

This project and its analyses were conducted to assist California fourth grade elementary school teachers in adjusting to teaching Common Core standards and science curriculum in their classrooms. The project included the creation of lesson plans, which could be utilized throughout the state of California.

As the Common Core standards, California’s Next Generation Science Standards for K- 12, were just proposed in June of 2013, these lesson plans would help teachers update their lessons and provide them materials and concepts of how to do so. These lessons provide higher-order thinking for students, which is the whole concept of the ...

Active Calculus, Matthew Boelkins, David Austin, Steven Schlicker

Open Education Materials

Active Calculus is different from most existing calculus texts in at least the following ways: the text is free for download by students and instructors in .pdf format; in the electronic format, graphics are in full color and there are live html links to java applets; the text is open source, and interested instructors can gain access to the original source files upon request; the style of the text requires students to be active learners — there are very few worked examples in the text, with there instead being 3-4 activities per section that engage students in connecting ideas, solving problems ...

Folklore And The Internet: Vernacular Expression In A Digital World, Trevor J. Blank Utah State University

Folklore And The Internet: Vernacular Expression In A Digital World, Trevor J. Blank

All USU Press Publications

Folklore and the Internet is a pioneering examination of the folkloric qualities of the World Wide Web, e-mail, and related digital media. It shows that folk culture, sustained by a new and evolving vernacular, has been a key, since the Internetýs beginnings, to language, practice, and interaction online. Users of many sorts continue to develop the Internet as a significant medium for generating, transmitting, documenting, and preserving folklore. In a set of new, insightful essays, contributors Trevor J. Blank, Simon J. Bronner, Robert Dobler, Russell Frank, Gregory Hansen, Robert Glenn Howard, Lynne S. McNeill, Elizabeth Tucker, and William Westerman showcase ...

Ignition delay times and CO, H2O, OH and CO2 time-histories were measured behind reflected shock waves for two FACE (Fuels for Advanced Combustion Engines) gasolines and one PRF (Primary Reference Fuel) blend. The FACE gasolines chosen for this work are primarily paraffinic and have the same octane rating (∼RON = 84) as the PRF blend, but contain varying amounts of iso- and n-paraffins. Species time-histories and ignition delay times were measured using laser absorption methods over a temperature range of 1350–1550 K and pressures near 2 atm. Measured species time-histories and ignition delay times of the PRF blend and the ...

Alignment Of The Western And Eastern Passage Tombs At Knowth Tomb 1, Frank Prendergast, Tom Ray

Book/Book Chapter

This report presents a summary account of two surveys undertaken by the authors to determine and interpret the alignments of the western and eastern passage tombs at Knowth, Co. Meath. The findings indicate that contrary to earlier suggestions, the eastern passage and the western passage (inner and outer) are not aligned towards sunrise and sunset respectively at the period of the vernal and autumnal equinoxes.

Functional Regression, Jeffrey S. Morris 2015 The University of Texas

Functional Regression, Jeffrey S. Morris

Jeffrey S. Morris

Functional data analysis (FDA) involves the analysis of data whose ideal units of observation are functions defined on some continuous domain, and the observed data consist of a sample of functions taken from some population, sampled on a discrete grid. Ramsay and Silverman's 1997 textbook sparked the development of this field, which has accelerated in the past 10 years to become one of the fastest growing areas of statistics, fueled by the growing number of applications yielding this type of data. One unique characteristic of FDA is the need to combine information both across and within functions, which Ramsay ...

Joint Search By Social And Spatial Proximity, Kyriakos Mouratidis, Jing Li, Yu Tang, Nikos Mamoulis

Research Collection School Of Information Systems

The diffusion of social networks introduces new challenges and opportunities for advanced services, especially so with their ongoing addition of location-based features. We show how applications like company and friend recommendation could significantly benefit from incorporating social and spatial proximity, and study a query type that captures these two-fold semantics. We develop highly scalable algorithms for its processing, and enhance them with elaborate optimizations. Finally, we use real social network data to empirically verify the efficiency and efficacy of our solutions.
