Jon Weisman
Senior Editor @jonweismanRobin Williams will make his first solo standup appearance on HBO since 2002 in December, with a show taped from his upcoming national tour.
“Robin Williams: Weapons of Self-Destruction” will be filmed at Washington, D.C.’s, DAR Constitution Hall in November for airing the following month. Marty Callner, who has previously guided HBO specials starring Williams, Will Ferrell, Chris Rock, Jerry Seinfeld and George Carlin, will produce and direct. David Steinberg will exec produce. Williams first appeared on HBO in 1977 as part of the cabler’s “Young Comedians” special and went on to make solo appearances in 1978, 1983, 1986 and 2002. The 2002 spec, “Robin Williams: Live on Broadway,” received five Emmy nominations, with Callner and Steinberg in the same behind-the-scenes roles. Williams also shared hosting duties on all nine of HBO’s “Comic Relief” charity benefit specials. He is scheduled to appear on the bigscreen next in “World’s Greatest Dad.”Follow @Variety on Twitter for breaking news, reviews and more
