Newest DRTC Incubator Tenant Holds Promise

Citing its potential for business and job growth, the GCEDC recently celebrated the newest tenant at the Dartmouth Regional Technology Center (DRTC) business incubator, FreshAir Sensor Corporation.  Founded by recent Tuck Business School MBA grad Jack O'Toole and Dartmouth Chemistry professor Joe BelBruno, FreshAir commercializes sensor technology that detects chemical compounds in cigarette smoke while providing real estate owners of a warning and time stamp of the violation.  Suitable applications for the technology include hotel rooms, rental cars, and other locations where owners do not want cigarette smoke damage.

Located at 16 Cavendish Court, Lebanon, the DRTC incubator provides space and programs for technology entrepreneurs seeking to start or growth their companies.

 

Loan Application to Assist in Creating 105 New Jobs

With the help of GCEDC, the Town of Lincoln Selectboard recently voted to "enthusiastically endorse" a Community Development Block Grant application to the NH Community Development Finance Authority.  If successful, funds will be sub-granted to the GCEDC in order to provide financing to the new Riverwalk at Loon Mountain resort project on a reclaimed brownfields site in Lincoln.   That project is expected to eventually eclipse over $38 million in assorted construction and development costs and result in 105 new jobs.

The GCEDC would use the funds to provide partial financing for the project with the returned principal payments being used to financing other Grafton County businesses.

 

Partnership Assists over 400 Businesses & Entrepreneurs!

Between July 1st, 2014 and June 30th, 2014, the Enterprise Center at Plymouth provided seminars, workshops, and individual business counseling to over 400 central New Hampshire businesses.

The Enterprise Center was created in 2013 as a result of a partnership between Plymouth State University and the GCEDC. Other partners include Belknap County EDC, the NH Dept of Resources & Economic Development, and the NH Small Business Development Centers. Financial support comes from the NH Community Development Finance Authority.

Federal VIP Visits Enterprise Center

May 27, 2014

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Economic Development, US Department of Commerce, Matt Erskine recently visited the Enterprise Center at Plymouth. Secretary Erskine was in New Hampshire visiting federal Economic Development Administration (EDA) projects and prioritized a visit Plymouth. During the tour, Secretary Erskine was visibly impressed by the entrepreneurial companies within and the jobs they're creating. We couldn't agree more!

Micro-Enterprise Grant to Assist Local Businesses

May 15, 2014

The New Hampshire Community Development Finance Authority voted to recommend a $77,000 CDBG Micro-Enterprise grant to the Enterprise Center at Plymouth; a partnership between the Grafton County Economic Development Council and Plymouth State University.

Funds will be used to continue the Enterprise Center's highly regarded business assistance seminars, help pay for continued Small Business Development Center counseling, and assist the GCEDC in providing micro-loans to Grafton County businesses.

 

SBA Names Scarano "NH Small Business Champion of the Year"

GCEDC Chief Executive Officer Mark Scarano was honored with the SBA's NH Small Business Champion of the Year award in consideration of his work in developing the Enterprise Center at Plymouth business incubator.

GCEDC Supports Small Business Counseling

Business owners seeking free and confidential counseling now have a local option thanks to the GCEDC's new partnership with the UNH Small Business Development Centers. Sally Holder, CPA, was recently hired to provide one-on-one advice to Grafton County's small businesses. Holder has a strong financial background and is available to meet with businesses at their location or at the Enterprise Center at Plymouth business incubator.
