Engelbrecht Family Winery and Vineyards

Our familys dream to create a winery utilizing only our own grapes raised in our vineyards has come true. Last year (2011) we harvest over 33 tons of grapes and this years harvest looks to be even greater.

In 2004 we planted our first acre of grapes and since then have added another 10 acres for a total of 11 acres of grapes (approximately 8,000 plants).

We produced and bottled 50,000 bottles of wines in 2011: 4 white wines, 6 red wines, 1 rose wine, and raspberry, rhubarb, and cranberry fruit.

The grape varieties we grow are known as the cold-climate grapes or hybrid grapes. You may be familiar with the 15spacer different varieties of grapes we have in our vineyards: Marechal Foch, Bluebell, Concord, Swenson White, Leon Millot, LaCrosse, LaCrescent, Kay Gray, Frontenac, Edelweiss, St. Pepin, St. Croix, Frontenac Gris, and Brianna. (These are the grapes that we have planted and have harvested for our estate-bottled wines.)

We recently received 2 gold medals and 3 silver medals in the Sixth Annual Mid-American Wine Competition held at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny, IA Campus.
spacer These wines were top notch, said Bob Foster, Director of the Mid-American Wine Competition (MAWC.) Consumers ought to track them down and enjoy them.

The competition was held July 13-15 and included wines from 15 Midwestern states.

Over 600 wines were entered by more than 100 different wineries. Professional wine judges from throughout the United States awarded 104 gold medals, 190 silver medals, and 183 bronze medals. Full results can be found at www.midamericanwine.org.

Currently, the Farm House Wine and Gift Shop is located in a remodeled machine shed on the farm and adjacent to the Farm House B&B.  We feature the Engelbrecht Family white, red and fruit wines.  spacer
