Based in Frederick, Maryland, the Vice President of this newly established entity will oversee a staff of three program managers.
Scope
Consumer: The underlying theme of the Center is "we take a pilots point of view". This includes probing the user community to gather intelligence (specifically about the experience of being a pilot), creating expectation for the flight training experience, awarding excellence, providing guidance on evaluating products, and influencing the marketplace.
Community: AOPA's research has shown that pilots want a greater sense of community and real opportunities to engage with their colleagues. This desire for both real and virtual communities makes this a priority thus theCenter will serve as a catalyst in bringing the community together in ways that are collaborative and reaffirming. Through the deployment of elearning technologies and adult distance learning concepts, the center will support a variety of pilot education programs.
Flight Training Initiative: The Center will assume responsibility for AOPA's flight training retention initiative. Begun in 2010 and now entering the third phase of programs and activities the Center is intensifying efforts to increase the number of students who begin and complete flight training.
Return to the Sky Initiative: Too many able, medically certified pilots are not flying. A major focus of the Center will be to assist the community in reigniting non-flying pilots' passion for flying and getting them back in the left seat.
Research and Technical Assistance: The Center will house and utilize a research component which will enable our efforts and activities to be grounded in sound protocol and based in both qualitative and quantitative research.
