MarsEdit 2.3

March 24th, 2009

I’m happy to announce that MarsEdit 2.3 is now officially released.

  • Now supports Tumblr blogs
  • Media manager now opens much faster with lots of photos
  • Revision of the Technorati Tags editor
  • Improved weblog Favicon detection

It feels great to finally have an official release out there that supports Tumblr. I would like to thank Marco Arment for his patience in working with me to improve the Tumblr API, so that it will work better with MarsEdit. There are still areas where we can improve the integration on both sides of equation, but I think this release represents a great start.

If you’ve got a blog and you haven’t tried MarsEdit before, give it a spin! Just put your blog’s home page URL in when MarsEdit asks for it, and you’ll be off and editing.

    Congratulations Daniel!

I’m sure the Tumblr support alone was a lot of hard work. I’m looking forward to giving it a go!

Thanks for all the hard work on this.
When can we expect to see a preview of your new “secret” iPhone application?

I’ll buy MarsEdit when it supports Chyrp.

Hi Markus – the last I investigated Chyrp, they hadn’t established an API for remote editors like MarsEdit to take advantage of. It’s definitely something I’d investigate if they supported an API. Ideally they would adopt a standardized API based on MetaWeblog or AtomPub. The more customized the APIs, the larger a following the system needs to make it worth my effort to support it.

    (Developer of Chyrp here.)

Chyrp currently supports the standard XML-RPC formats, such as metaWeblog, MovableType, and the Blogger protocols. They only work with the Text feather however; a specialized protocol for Chyrp would need to be developed for *full* support, and it wouldn’t be compatible with any of the current XML-RPC clients. This is on the roadmap.

Daniel: If you’re interested in full Chyrp support at all down the line, I’d be happy to help out when the time comes.

    Thanks, Daniel!!

Tumblr support is a milestone for MarsEdit.
And, I am looking forward to your “secret” iPhone app. When it’s released, I’ll definitely buy it. I promise!!

    Daniel,
Now is your opportunity for the Red-Sweater version of I am rich.
Ryoji just promised to buy whatever you are developing!!!

I can’t make the same promise, heck you might be developing a Fly Fishing lure guide.

Any hope of getting Habari support in a future version of MarsEdit?

Drop me a line if you are interested. We have full APP support, and have since version 0.1.

Hi Chris – some of your contributors have been hanging out in the (very tiny) ##marsedit IRC channel on irc.freenode.net. They hit me up from time to time with questions, and as far as I know they have MarsEdit basically working with Habari.

Have I missed smething or does this new version still not support custom fields?

Hi Donald – you haven’t missed anything. Custom fields are still in the pipeline.

Congratulations on the new release! Interesting timing though, just two days after I decided to switch my blog back from Tumblr to WordPress. :)

@Daniel Julkut: Thanks for the info. Oh, well, I guess we’ll just have to be patient on that one…
