Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI)
The SNIA launched the Cloud Storage Initiative (CSI) to develop industry standards for cloud-based storage. The CSI resulted in the publication of the Cloud Data Management Interface (CDMI), a functional interface that defines how applications create, retrieve, update and delete data elements from clouds. By using the CDMI, cloud consumers are able to discover and exploit the capabilities of any cloud storage device of different cloud providers.

Extensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML)
OASIS was responsible for defining the Extensible Access Control Markup Language (XACML), a language for representing authorization and entitlement policies. XACML defines an industry XML schema for describing authorization and entitlement policies. This industry standard enables standardized access to various IT resources.

Liberty Identity Assurance Framework (LIAF)
The Liberty Alliance has published the Liberty Identity Assurance Framework (LIAF) that aims to facilitate trusted identity federation and promote uniformity and interoperability amongst identity service providers (including cloud providers). The main building blocks of LIAF are assurance level criteria, service assessment criteria, and accreditation and certification rules.

NIST Definition of Cloud Computing
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)s definition of cloud computing characterizes as a model that enables access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. The model means that these resources can be provisioned and released quickly and with minimal effort in terms of management or service provider interactions. It is characterized by the following characteristics: on-demand self service, broad network access, resource pooling, rapid elasticity, and measured service. It is associated with the service models: Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS), and Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). And it can be deployed following one of four models: private cloud, community cloud, public cloud, or hybrid cloud.
