Zwiki 2 (recommended)
the main line of Zwiki development. This version stores text as unicode, reorganizes skins, drops some non-essential features and adds support for Zope 2.12 and python 2.6. Older zopes (Zope 2.7 upward) are still supported, at least in the 2.0 release. Get 2.0b1 (2009/10/23): tarball, or darcs.

Zwiki 1
the classic Zwiki 0.x line, still supported but no longer actively developed. This version stores text as utf-8 and supports Zope versions 2.7 to 2.11. Get 0.61 (2008/10/24): tarball or darcs.

Welcome to Zwiki!

Zwiki is.. a powerful, innovative, user-friendly wiki engine based on the Zope 2 platform. This project has been developed since 1999 by Simon Michael and contributors around the world, powers many Zope and non-Zope-related wikis, and is free software released under the GNU GPL . Please explore the site, and enjoy the software. Your questions, comments, patches and donations are most welcome!

Features.. the classic wiki features, plus a number of uncommon ones (all optional):

  • spacer
works with plain Zope or inside Zwiki and Plone sites
  • completely manageable through the web
  • lightweight page hierarchy, with a simple flat url space
  • smooth two-way email integration, can be a mail list
  • an elegant, integrated wiki-based issue tracker
  • powerful, sandboxed dynamic scripting
  • editable in your web browser, in any external editor, via ftp, webdav, TinyMCE HTML editor
  • supports RestructuredText, StructuredText, WYSIWYG HTML, plaintext (Zwiki 1 also supports MoinMoin, WikiWikiWebMarkup, LaTeX)
  • inherits all the power of Zope and its add-ons - platform independence, undo, transactions, membership, cross-site syncing...
  • precise permissions-based access control
  • strong internationalisation support
  • natural, fuzzy-matching urls
  • highly customizable skin
  • page ratings
  • RSS feeds
  • just works, yet flexible
  • mature and refined through daily use
  • see also: Zwiki in a nutshell

Flaws.. some things to be aware of:

  • to publish a zwiki site, you need a host that supports Zope 2 (or see FreeHosting)
  • scaling large wikis to very high performance levels requires ram and/or expertise
  • other KnownIssues.
