Fire Factor 19

On · In Academy News, General news

spacer Join Dormitory Fire Marshalls and Greek Leaders for a morning of intense fire safety education.

  • Learn to use fire extinguishers.
  • Witness live fire in sprinkler protected and un-protected “dorm rooms”.
  • Escape from a smoke filled building.
  • Learn to survive your next night out!

Experience all this and more at the 19th Fire Factor Academy, September 27, at Illinois Fire Service Institute.

The Office of the State Fire Marshall will issue a proclamation declaring September “Campus Fire Safety Month”, and will present the “Look Up — Pay It Forward” campaign. You’ll have an opportunity, after the Academy, to join them in distributing smoke detectors to off-campus housing.

spacer Come visit Fire Factor at Engineering Open House, March 14, at the center of the Bardeen Quad. Look for our booth near the Society of Women Engineers’ side-by-side dorm room fire demonstration. We’ll have posters, giveaways for your residence fire safety activities, and information about how to comply with ODOS Greek Housing requirements. Since there will be no regular academy this Spring, this is your only chance to see the fire demonstration!
Fire demonstrations are at 11:00, 1:00 and 3:00. See you there!

A transcript of the interview, more about Feeney’s advocacy, and links to reports on the Station and more recent club fires is at NFPA Journal.

Sorry for the prolonged absence. We left the website down to eliminate some nasties that were lurking in our code (no harm to users, thankfully).
We’re still tweaking some pages, working on updates, and have some new content planned. Currently, Photos are limited to archives, and not all Videos are working. These will be back soon.

It’s Thanksgiving — check out the updated turkey post, below.
Enjoy and share your feedback.
