San Francisco punk act, American Steel. are recording a new song today. Here’s what they had to say:

The band’s latest album “Dear Friends and Gentle Hearts” was released in 2009 on Fat Wreck Chords.

“Dead And Gone” is off the band’s album “Destroy Their Future” which was released in 2007.

Death the False Hope Fest announces first round of bands (including American Steel, Mixtapes, Luther, and more)

Digital punk label Death to False Hope Records has announced the first draft of bands for their third annual Death to False Hope Fest. Bands that will be playing include American Steel, Blacklist Royals, Mixtapes, Banquets, Red Collar, Luther, Arliss Nancy, Hold Tight!, Gunner’s Daughter, Worship This!, The Scandals, Downbound City, Old Flings, This Is Your Life, Almost People, Drag Your Chains, Museum Mouth, The Radio Reds, and Ascetic Parade.

The event will take place in Durham, NC on May 10th and 11th at Motorco Music Hall. Tickets are available here. (Be warned though: tickets have been going so fast that the site temporarily crashed).

Pouza Fest announces lineup: MxPx, Teenage Bottlerocket, American Steel, Big D, more

The initial lineup for this year’s Pouzza Fest in Montreal has been announced.  MXPX, American Steel, Big D & The Kids Table, Grade, White Lung, The Ataris, Masked Intruder, Diamond Youth, Ann Beretta, Transit and more are confirmed so far (check out the entire list here).

BPouzza Fest will be held on May 17th through the 19th in Montreal, Canada. For more details including volunteer info for if you live in the area and to keep up to date on band announcements, check out the official festival website here.

Ryan Massey (American Steel) founds Lugosi Records; announces tons of plans

Ryan Massey (American Steel and Communique) has founded a brand new record label, called Lugosi Records, and announced that he plans to re-release American Steel, and Communique’s entire back catalogs, as well as his new band, The Reckless Kind’s debut album, “Golden Age Thinking,” which you can check out a new song from here.

Here’s what Ryan had to say about why he started the label:
Lugosi Records is an idea that has floated around for years, and was finally made a reality when Lookout Records saw fit to disband, returning all rights to master recordings back to the artists. We are fortunate that a number of labels friendly to our cause (such as it is) would have been happy to re-release the old Amsteel and Communiqué albums for us. But I have always wanted to have a venue for putting out records by bands that I really enjoy. So, distribution was secured, funding scoured for, and now we find ourselves in business (such as it is). As for the future of Lugosi, Ryan had this to say: The old American Steel and Communiqué albums will be re-pressed and once again made available. In some cases, remastering and repackaging may be necessary as some of the original materials have been lost. We will also be putting out a handful of new releases a year. In the current climate, it is challenging for musicians to make even the most meager of livings. Yet I find that the importance of music in most people’s lives is undiminished – it is just consumed in new ways. Hopefully this little label can lend some small amount of support to artists who care deeply about their craft, and everyone can have some fun to boot.” 

The label will be hosting a show at Bottom of the Hill in San Francisco on August 24th to celebrate the opening of their doors. (you can get will call tickets here) The re-release of American Steel’s “Rouges March” and the debut full-length from The Reckless Kind will coincide with the show.
