Rumor has Apple, Samsung adopting wireless charging

Apple changeover may be unlikely

Apple and Samsung are expected to add wireless charging to their phones in 2013, industry sources for DigiTimes claim. The people don't elaborate, except to suggest that Apple will probably develop its own wireless charging system, whether integrated directly into iPhones or dependent on connected accessories. Third-party wireless charging accessories are already available for the iPhone, but are dependent on special cases and charging stands.

The rumor may be questionable, since most reports have pointed to Apple launching an iPhone 5S this year, not a major new model. Wireless charging would likely require a significant overhaul, especially since the 5 uses an aluminum shell. Apple may also be hesitant to add technology that could increase the weight and thickness of its phones, even if just slightly.
