Requirements
OVDLT is intended to run on a server running either a common version of Linux or Mac OS X, version 10.5 or 10.6.
Administrators and end-users of an OVDLT-hosted Web site must use a modern Web browser with Javascript enabled to see and use the site as intended. Relatively recent versions of Firefox, Safari, Internet Explorer, or Chrome should work fine.
OVDLT Base Product Requirements
The base OVDLT product requires a basic Ruby on Rails with MySQL installation. Specifically, the following software should be installed on the server:
- Ruby 1.8.4 through 1.8.7
- RubyGems
- Ruby on Rails 2.3.5
- Apache or Nginx Web server. Deploying OVDLT with Phusion Passenger is strongly recommended.
- MySQL 5.0.x or higher
If you don't have the software above currently installed, you might want to follow the documentation at the official Ruby on Rails site to install and get a first Rails application up and running. It's pretty easy.
OVSurGen Requirements
To use OVDLT to generate preview surrogates (e.g., posterframes, storyboards, fastforward previews) for your videos, you will need to separately install the OVSurGen preview surrogate generation tool. The requirements for OVSurGen include the following libraries:
- ffmpeg, gd, libpng, libjpeg, zlib, bzip2, freetype
All libraries for the above should be installed, including the developer versions of these libraries.
On Ubuntu, you can install the required packages with this
command:
apt-get install ffmpeg libgd-tools libgd2-xpm libgd2-xpm-dev libpng12-0 libpng12-dev libjpeg62 libjpeg62-dev zlib-bin zlib1g zlib1g-dev bzip2 libbz2-1.0 libbz2-dev libfreetype6 libfreetype6-dev
On Fedora, you can install the required packages with these commands:
yum install ruby mysql-server git rubygems rubygem-mongrel gcc make binutils ruby-mysql ruby-devel gcc-c++ gd gd-devel bzip2 bzip2-libs bzip2-devel subversion
gem install rails mysql rack
