Green Literacy and Architectural Design Curriculum (GLAD) 2011
Green Literacy and Architectural Design Curriculum (GLAD) is a program intended to give students in grades 5–9 an introduction to architectural sustainability. Designed to use an interdisciplinary approach to reinforce skills and standards, GLAD teaches students about sustainability through architectural design projects and interactive, hands-on exercises.
The curriculum, written by an award-winning middle school teacher, was created with the intent to be easy for the professional and the student to participate, learning together about architecture and sustainability. Lessons include fun, easy-to-follow activities, and the course is completed with a comprehensive test.

Author Biography
Jennifer Caffrey is a 14-year veteran of technology education. She has taught at the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School, in Old Lyme, Connecticut, for the past 10 years. After competing in the School of the Future Student Design Competition, run by the Council of Educational Facility Planners International (CEFPI), she became very interested in green design in architecture. The seventh-grade students at her school have been using her curriculum, based on Autodesk® Revit® Architecture software, for the past four years with great success. As a result, she created Green Literacy in Architecture Design (GLAD), which employs an interdisciplinary, hands-on approach to teach students in grades 5–9 the basics of architecture and sustainability.
