In recognition of National Bullying Prevention Month, Facebook and Instagram partnered with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center to create the guide, “Safety in the Online Community: A conversation with your 13-year-old about Facebook and Instagram” to help parents talk with their teens about using Facebook and Instagram. The guide covers setting up a new account, safety tips, and commonly asked questions. The guide is also accompanied by discussion points for talking with your child and how to respond to harassing content.

Read PACER’s most recent blog post on Babble.com, the highly acclaimed online magazine and blog network published by the Walt Disney Company for parents.
It began with complaints of a stomachache, followed by headaches and sore throats and other excuses about not feeling well. Although Amy wasn’t sure why, before long it became obvious that her 10-year-old daughter, Sarah, did not want to go to school.

In support of Unity Day, and in partnership with Babble.com, PACER is working with the experts at Twigtale to create a customizable book to prevent bullying. The book helps young children understand how to be a good friend and how to assert oneself when not being treated respectfully. A leading child development expert scripted the easy-to-use template, available on Twigtale.com. You simply add photos and details to create the book personalized to your child. I've been bullied since I was 10 years old.It started with the people I thought were friends. I've been called nasty and told I have bugs in my hair. I've been called poor because i had to shop at the Dollar Store. I've been called gay because I have gay friends. To this day I get asked if I'm anorexic or if I have an eating problem because I'm scrawny. I was one of the lucky ones. I stopped caring what other people thought and said about me because the people whose opinion mattered to me knew that what was being said wasn't true. But I can't just act like one of the victims because I have to admit that me and my friends helped bully a girl so bad in 8th grade that she switched schools. It haunts me every day that I helped to that to that girl because it wasnt me and I have never gotten the chance to apologize to her. Bullying isnt fun and I don't think any of us actually realize what our bullying does or how it makes people feel.

i didnt have a lot of friends because i have hair on my arms and face..i was pretty hairy and people would come up with names...names that probably dont mean much but it hurt me and i wouldnt tell my mom and i would cry at night..i still dont tell but all i know is that it hurts and i wish it would stop :(

People just don't even know how bad it hurts to be put down every day. And I think nobody should ever feel this way. Because people can start to self harm. Its a terrible feeling. I think this should all stop. NOW.
Sarah, 12, USA
I care because, it hurts i know. It isnt just about getting abused or anythings. Words have alot to do with it. If every school had a teen against bullying program many teens wouldnt be afraid to go to school. Everyday at least 17 teenagers take theirs lives trying to cope with bullying. Bullying with words or actions can cause cutting, burning, over eating, depression, insanity, and death. This is a serious cause that needs to be known. Whether you like or accept it JUDGING IS BULLYING. Yes sounds crazy right? But it is true, and most people do it. I was bullied since i was 5 years old. it feels awful. It doesnt solve anything. The only reason people do it is because "it makes them feel better about themselves. Some teens and kids are to afraid to stand up for themselves and that is why i talk to many of them and confront the people that do it. I had no self-confidence or pride until i was 13 years of age. Ive been working on this act against bullying for two years. And the bullying rate has actually gone up! I used to beat myself up telling myself everyone is right;that i was fat and i was ugly, and i wasnt smart enough to do anything. I knew it wasnt true but i told myself "well hey maybe if i told them they were right they would stop doing it". I was wrong it got worse i started burning myself with hot metal trying to feel some sort of feeling,I realize that was wrong.
Peyton, 15, Tennessee
I care because when I was bullied I felt like nobody wanted to help me and that nobody cared, not even the teachers who I thought cared I signed the petition cause I want this to end

In celebration of Unity Day on October 22, students at Bailey Intermediate of North Lamar, Texas, pledged to join The WE WILL Generation to stand up against bullying. Leading up to Unity Day, each fourth and fifth grader drew a hand and arm with a positive response to bullying, such as “I WILL raise people up, NOT down.” Students created posters about acceptance and kindness, which were hung around campus, and nurses sold orange bracelets. On Unity Day, students wore orange and participated in a “MIX IT UP” challenge by sitting with someone new at lunch. Learn more>>>
