Chrono Boost is probably one of the most important elements for high level Protoss players to master. The Protoss Chrono Boost ability can be found under the Nexus building ability list and costs 25 energy each time the ability is used. Chrono Boost increases the production speed of the building it was cast upon by 50% and lasts for 20 seconds. Using Chrono Boost effectively is essential in the Protoss macro game.

Tips

Being able to quickly Chrono Boost a building without clicking on the Nexus is important. Many Protoss players hotkey their Nexus(s) to hotkey 5, then to quickly cast the Chrono Boost ability, the player only needs to hit "5", then "C" (the hotkey on the Nexus for Chrono Boost) then finally click on the building to be "boosted".

Using the Chrono Boost at the right time is also very important depending on what your attempting to accomplish during the game. Many players will Chrono Boost the Nexus with the first 25 energy to help get probes out quickly to assist with the Macro portion of the game. When preparing for an attach, Chrono Boosting Gateways is a great way to quickly crank out attacking units. The Protoss player can also use Chrono Boost to decrease a warp gates cool down time or when constructing new buildings, the building being constructed can be Chrono Boosted to decrease the amount of time it takes to warp in the building.

Also remember that Chrono Boost increases the production speed of buildings even if they are producing upgrades. An example of this is using Chrono Boosting upgrades in preparation for a timing attack.

Be aware that the opponent can see what your Chrono Boosting, and many players have come to recognize certain Chrono Boost patterns such as the order in which buildings are Chrono Boosted (Chrono Boosting the Cybernetics Core, etc) preparation for a 4 gate rush, etc.
