PRINCETON, NJ – The Brown women's lacrosse team (3-1, 1-1) dropped its first game of the season, falling to Princeton (3-1, 1-0) on Saturday afternoon at the Class of 1952 Stadium. The Bears were led by junior Bre Hudgins (Syracuse, NY), who scored four goals, and sophomore Abby Bunting (Wellesley, MA), who scored three.

After Princeton's Charlotte Davis opened the scoring just 38 seconds into the game, Brown answered with the next three goals, as the Bears held a 3-1 lead with 18:23 remaining in the first half. Senior Lindsay Minges (Rochester, NY) got Brown on the board, scoring with the Bears on a woman advantage at 27:57 and senior Tara Rooke (Wilbraham, MA) scored just 1:42 later. Bunting capped the run eight minutes after Rooke's goal with her first of the game.

The Tigers cut the lead to 3-2 on a goal by Anya Gersoff at 14:49, but Hudgins answered just 32 seconds later on a free position shot to give the Bears a 4-2 lead just past the midway point of the half.

Princeton went on a four-goal run during a span of five minutes, tying the game at 4-4 on an Erin Slifer goal at 10:17, and then taking the lead on back-to-back goals by Erin McMunn at 9:14 and 7:12.

Minges halted the Tigers' momentum with her second of the afternoon at the 6:56 mark, but McMunn sparked a four-goal Princeton run to close the half, as the hosts led, 10-5, at the break.

Davis opened the second half with a goal just 1:25 into the period to give Princeton an 11-5 lead, but Hudgins kept the Bears within five goals, scoring her second goal of the day 1:11 later.

The Tigers would then outscore Brown, 5-1, over the next 12 minutes to take their biggest least of the afternoon, 16-7, on a Gersoff goal with 14:55 remaining.

Freshman Sarah Nesi (Westport, CT) and Bunting brought Brown to within 16-9 with a pair of goals at 14:23 and 12:32, but that was as close as the Bears would get, as the teams traded goals the rest of the way to account for the 18-11 final.

Brown was dominant on the draw, winning 18 to Princeton's 12, including a 12-3 advantage in the second half. Junior Grace Healy (Bellport, NY) led the way with six, while Hudgins had four and junior Erin Roos (Wilmette, IL) earned three. Bunting and sophomore Alyssa DiBona (Media, PA) led the Bears with three ground balls each, while Roos had a team-high three caused turnovers.

For the game, Princeton held a 31-21 advantage in shots and won the ground ball battle, 21-10. Sophomore Kellie Roddy (Poway, CA) made six saves in net for Brown, while Annie Woehling and Caroline Franke combined for three saves in the Princeton goal.

The Bears return to action on Tuesday, March 12th, when they host Holy Cross in a 4:00 p.m. contest.
