Syncsort, a provider of big data and mainframe software, has completed the acquisition of UK-based William Data Systems, a provider of advanced network monitoring and security software products for the IBM z Systems z/OS mainframe platform. According to Syncsort, because the mainframe is a high-volume transactional supercomputer, the networking and security data collected by the William Data product suite is particularly valuable to fast-growing big data and analytical platforms.

WANTED: Professionals to Educate and Enlighten Enterprises on Data Security

There has been no shortage of disturbing accounts of data breaches and system hacks across many of the world's organizations. A recent survey of 353 data managers and professionals, members of the Independent Oracle Users Group, finds that enterprises are well aware of the risks they may encounter and bracing for the next potential onslaught of data security threats. More than one-third say their organizations are vulnerable, and likely to be hit by an incident, up from 20% in a similar survey conducted in 2008.

Teradata is introducing new big data applications that incorporate recently acquired capabilities and technologies from Revelytix and Thing Big Analytics. The new offerings include solutions targeted to specific verticals such as retail and healthcare, new Teradata Loom 2.4 capabilities to expand the depth and breadth of metadata in the data lake, and a new fixed price/fixed time-frame data lake optimization service offering.
