Welcome to the Eagle Battalion!

Eagle Battalion Cadet Ranks Fourth in Nation.

From its creation in 1980 until today, the Georgia Southern Army ROTC Program has pursued only one mission: to commission future leaders in the U.S. Army. Our award-winning program is the largest of its kind in the Southeastern United States, and recruits only the highest quality students, the best of which graduate with a degree and a gold bar.

Highlights of our program include:

  • Back-to-back recipient of the prestigious MacArthur Award, presented to the top ROTC program from each of the eight brigades.
  • Winning the 2013 6th Brigade Ranger Challenge and placing 2nd in 2014.
  • The largest Army ROTC Nursing program in the nation.
  • Serving as the Green to Gold counterpart battalion for both Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield.
  • Meeting or exceeding the required number of Army Commissioned Officers for the last 10 years, one of only a handful in the country to do so.
  • Scholarships awarded to 56% of our students; 33% in the Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP); and only 11% Non-Scholarship/Non-SMP students.
  • In the Eagle Battalion, you will be trained and mentored to the highest possible standards. Our expectations are high, but our world-class group of Cadre will be there every step of the way to teach, coach and mentor you to your success. “Soaring Courage!”

Initial rendering of the new Military Science Building

Safely tucked inside the pages of Georgia’s $21 billion state budget is $9.5 Million to construct a new Georgia Southern University Military Science Building.

Georgia Governor Nathan Deal visited the Georgia Southern campus on April 28, 2014 to sign the budget bill at the foot of the Marvin Pittman Administration Building. The funding will addresses a great need for the Eagle Battalion ROTC Program.

“To be honest, we’re happy with anything we get but having a first-class facility like the one they plan to build for us really tells us a lot about what they think of ROTC,” said Professor of Military Science LTC Gary Morea. “It showcases us as a real first-class program and it’s a great accolade for all of the hard work the Cadets have put forward up to this point.”

The new building, encompassing 30,000 square feet, will replace a 10,000 square-foot temporary facility that the battalion has occupied for nearly a decade.
