Hello Partners in Action!
For me, the photograph of Waimea Canyon on Kauai, March in Greenpeace’s 2013 calendar, is the most meaningful and symbolic of why I am committed to Greenpeace. In July, I was there with my husband and with my son, Winn. It’s one of the most spectacular places I have ever seen. I know my son won’t remember being there but I do want him to have the opportunity to return to this special place when he is older and can experience it on his own.
I look forward to reading your comments and hearing why you are committed to Greenpeace.
Thank you for adding this to your site, it is always inspiring to me to read others’ stories. For me, I have always been an environment and animal lover and with the work Greenpeace is doing to protect our planet it seemed critical to join in. Combined with the fact they are completely neutral, not taking money from corporations or governments, as well as global, with campaigns that bring power and focus to important issues. The other big thing that keeps me involved with Greenpeace are its “victories”. So many charities are doing like things but don’t always have the victories/successes behind their work. With Greenpeace, in the last 5 years, progress and victories are happening all the time to show movement and success, which makes a huge difference to me. Thanks for listening. Keep up the “Green Victories”!

Why do I support Greenpeace? Because your philosophy includes the concept that humans should be stewards no despoilers of our planet. Alas, greed and what Kahlil Gibran has called the lust for comfort are riding too high. I am in my 90’s have not owned a car for 14 years and do my best to waste not..
As a very young child my dad would tell me stories about his days as a boy on his family farm with the various animals. I was always bringing home strays and I remember my dad bringing home some mice he found at work. I was not a very popular kid – too quiet, too big – so I found my best times were with the animals I got to know. This love of animals and later, nature in general, has only grown as I’ve aged. I’m always so saddened and disillusioned by the greed, viciousness and overall disregard for life in any other form but ours that is shown by so many humans. We’ve been extremely successful in convincing ourselves that we are the only important life form on the planet and that what we want, when we want it and how we want is paramount to the lives of any other species sharing our world. I’m 69 now and began in my 20’s to support many ‘animal rights’ groups. The movement has been fairly successful over those many years and thanks to organizations such as Greenpeace there is some (maybe not a lot…) hope for the future. Now that there’s some efforts at saving the environment, we may have a little more chance of saving the living things that need it.
Right now one of my biggest motivators is Dame Daphne Sheldrick and her amazing and lifelong efforts to save the elephants. I’ve had the great pleasure of meeting her and visiting with the orphans both in Nairobi and at Ithumba. I’ve also been blessed with several chances to travel to Africa, Costa Rica, Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, Ecuador, etc. and always to see and appreciate the wildlife there before it is gone. I turn 70 in January and have a trip to Thailand planned for February so I can interact with tigers, orangutans and Asian elephants. Please keep up the great work that you do. Both my husband and I have Greenpeace in our wills.
I have been supporting Greenpeace for many years. I remember the anti-nuclear activism in the early years. I remember the loss of the Rainbow Warrior in the Pacific to protect the planet. Greenpeace is unique among environmental groups because its activists and supporters put their lives on the line to protect the planet we depend on for clean air, water, food, and so many other life giving treasures.

Nowadays, because I spent 2000-2009 writing a book…called “Can Poetry Save the Earth? / A Field Guide to Nature Poems”.
Thanks for helping me to see things in a different light.

Greenpeace is a gutsy environmental ACTION organization, in a culture where other organizations walk into negotiations with compromise at the top of their action list. We canNOT compromise anything anymore. It’s what has brought us species and planet devastation.
Greenpeace reflects my beliefs that all the rest of Creation is as important as we are, not lesser, not consumable, and not to be ‘sacrificed’ for our whimsy.
I’m an elder now and i have seen Greenpeace referred to so many times in documentaries, and referred to by anti-environmental groups all my life- I KNOW they must be affective! I think of people who do this work as real heroes in a time that is otherwise all about oblivious greed.
