TDI's faculty includes physicians, epidemiologists, psychologists, sociologists, economists, medical geographers, statisticians, and other specialists. They are researchers, educators, mentors, and practicing health professionals. Their primary concerns are studying and improving health care and health care delivery, and training the next generation of leaders in those fields.

Rachel Thompson has a background in health psychology and conducts applied research to enhance provider-patient communication; facilitate shared decision-making; support providers to understand and respond to the needs and preferences of patients; and strengthen the patient voice in the design and evaluation of health services, clinical trials, and health care guidelines and policies.
