Spirits
Not the paranormal kind
I don’t drink a whole lot, but I really enjoy it when I do. I like fine wines, but generally prefer bargain wines under $20. Lately, I’ve been purchasing more expensive wines ($25-$50). This was during a trip to Napa where my wife and I toured several wineries and ended up joining the Trinitas Winery’s wine club. We picked that one over several others because the ship only four times per year instead of monthly like some clubs. Their wine isn’t on a par with Mondavi or V. Sattui, but it isn’t as pricey either and is well worth the money.
I am a fan of good beer as well. I don’t consider Budwieser, Miller, or Coors to be good beers, though theose breweries are certainly capable of producing some great beverages. I prefer microbrewed beers including Sam Adams and I still have a small cache of the Triple Bock from the mid 1990s. It just gets better with age.
I also enjoy Bourbon, cognac, brandy, and port. I cut my teeth drinking Old Granddad back in college. It’s a pretty harsh bourbon for drinking, but I’ve found the it makes an excellent bourbon for use in bourbon sauce for bread puddings if I drop a vanilla bean in a bottle and leave it for three months or so.
