Lazaro Bruzon sets new ELO points personal best

Cuban Lazaro Bruzon has set a new personal record of 2,694 ELO points at the world ranking of the International Chess Federation.

The five-time Cuban national champion topped his previous personal best of 2,693 ELO points, which he set in May last year.

Bruzon has an impressive winning record of 56.9 per cent, according to ChessGames.com. Now he has added three points at the Dutch Tata Steel tournament and he has gone up two places in the world classification list, from the 55th to the 53rd.

But he trails behind fellow Cuban Great Master Leinier Dominguez, who is 20th place in the world ranking with 2,730, the first in Latin America and the third highest in the continent.

The top ranking player in the world is still Norwegian Magnus Carlsen (2,835), followed by Armenian Levon Aronian (2,820).

Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2,801 points) still has third place, ahead of Indian Viswanathan Anand (2,799), the current world champion but still under 2,800 points.

US player Hikaru Nakamura (2,771) is now 6th. The rest in the list of the 10 best players in the world is completed with Teimour Radjabov (Azerbaidzhan, 2,784, fifth), Italian Fabiano Caruana (2,767, seventh), Russians Serguei Karjakin (2, 766, eighth) and Alexander Morozevich (2,765, ninth) and Ukranian Vassily Ivanchuk (2,764, tenth).
