FSU Center for the Advancement of
Human Rights
The Center for the Advancement of Human Rights (CAHR) welcomes those who want to learn about human rights issues and explore possibilities for human rights advocacy.
The issuance of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948 began what some have called “The Human Rights Revolution.” Since that time, the human rights movement has become a global phenomenon, challenging people and governments everywhere to guarantee the basic rights of all the world’s citizens.
As part of that Human Rights Revolution, Florida State University in 2000 established the Center for the Advancement of Human Rights.
Mission of the Center
Created by funds from an anonymous donor that have been matched by the State of Florida, the Center has the mandate of:
- Facilitating the development of interdisciplinary human rights courses throughout the university and of fostering human rights scholarship;
- Establishing human rights field placements for FSU students and engaging in direct human rights advocacy;
- Supporting non-governmental organizations (NGOs) throughout the world that engage in human rights work.

"Professor Terry Coonan will offer a public presentation on "Human Trafficking: Florida and Beyond" at the campus International Justice (IJM) meeting on January 27, 2015. The presentation is free and open to the public, and will be held in Dunlap 2208 at 8:30 PM"

Global Pathways Certificate Program “Through an individually designed course of study, students in the Human Rights Theme for the Global Pathways Certificate Program have the opportunity to explore how the "Human Rights Revolution" has changed the worldview of countries and governments. Undergraduate and Graduate Students are eligible to participate.”
