Record-Busting Largemouth Bass Has Fishermen Buzzing

TWRA congratulates Gabe Keen for his historic catch of a new Tennessee State Record Largemouth Bass!

spacer Friday the 13th was Gabe Keen's lucky day. The 28-year-old Campbell County High School history teacher was fishing on Chickamauga Reservoir Feb.13, preparing for an upcoming tournament, when something suddenly hammered his lure. Something big.

Big, as in a Tennessee state record largemouth bass: 15 pounds, three ounces. It was almost a pound heavier than the former record, which had stood for more than 60 years.

    Moment of Freedom Campaign

spacer Tennessee has become an ideal destination for sportsman with mobility impairments. Many organization have worked hard to provide wheelchair-accessible custom blinds and fishing piers on public lands and waters.  More than a dozen deer, turkey and waterfowl blinds that include ramps and other features to make hunting from a wheelchair more convenient can be found across the state. A number of wheelchair-accessible fishing piers and observation towers offer additional outdoor opportunities as well.

The state’s Moment of Freedom initiative, a cooperative effort by the TWRA, TWRF, TWRC and other partners, is aimed at increasing these outdoor opportunities. The primary goal of the Moment of Freedom is to create 21 new wheelchair-accessible sites over the next three years. To learn about the Moment of Freedom, visit www.MomentOfFreedom.org.
