Recommended mixtape, here. No, really, a mix tape – as in a DJ mix on actual cassette tape. Danny Akalepse of the great Truth & Soul Records in NYC teams with the Impala Sounds crew in Chicago to produce the first in the Champions of Sound Mix Tape series. Said champion sounds range from rare soul and funk to classic hip-hop, current boom-bap and other soulful grooviness and feature hand painted canvas cover art by Chi graf artist SLANG. Only 100 copies made – and yours when you visit the crew’s weekly Sunday night Mix Tape Lounge soiree at The Owl in Chicago. But available via digital audio stream and download for e’rrybody, below.
