Campuses - Magee

The friendly, village atmosphere of the Magee campus offers an intimate learning environment where staff and students know each other by name. As part of the Magee community you will receive excellent support and can enjoy a full social life.

Magee is synonymous with creativity, it is home to Ulster’s School of Creative Arts and creativity runs through every programme. Teaching strengths include: business; computing; nursing; Irish language and literature; social sciences; law; psychology and peace and conflict studies. Derry~Londonderry will be the 2013 UK City of Culture and the campus will play an important role in the festivities.

This modern university campus has all the teaching, research and support facilities you would expect for learning, socialising and sports. The modern library has an excellent selection of books and academic journals and provides access to electronic journals. Food and drink are available throughout the day at The Thyme Out restaurant, Zest and Jitters. The Students’ Union also provides fresh food, snacks and drinks at the Bunker Café which is transformed, in the evening, into a bar and club. Our sports facilities include a multi-purpose sports hall, fitness suite and studio as well as a grass and floodlit synthetic 3G pitch with pavilion. The modern halls of residence are located a short walk from the campus at Duncreggan Student Village.

The beautiful, leafy campus comprises a mixture of historical and new buildings and is dominated by the main building – known by some students as “Hogwarts” due to its impressive gothic architecture. Magee College was opened in 1845 as a centre for arts and theology at the bequest of Martha Magee, the widow of a Presbyterian minister. This magnificent building was opened in 1865 and remains the hub of the campus.

The famous walled city centre and the River Foyle are a short walk from the campus. Located in the North West of Northern Ireland and a short distance from County Donegal, Derry~Londonderry is ideally situated for exploring some of Ireland’s most dramatic landscapes. Picturesque country villages, the breathtaking Donegal hills, spectacular views along the Causeway Coast and the Sperrin Mountains, are all within a 50 mile radius.
