After months of false starts, Marc finally tracks down his old friend Louis CK and it's more than one episode can hold. Louis is at the top of his game today, but he and Marc recall the days when they were both struggling young comics in Boston, when Louis was getting rejected by SNL, and when his movie was being taken away from him by a Hollywood studio. Oh yeah, and when Louis bought a trumpet.

On the Daily Show tonight, Louis CK mentioned the jizz trumpet. Apparently he sold it to John Stewart for 5k, (3600 profit) which he used to fund Tomorrow Night.

Marc,

I became a fan of Louis from the start of his first appearance on Conan's show.

It is a real treat to hear Louis talk about his early success during the late 80's comedy boom.

I wish that Louis had expanded on why he disliked Seinfeld when it was on the top of the heap of the 90's television sitcom compost heap.

In my opinion, Louis current show on FX is a delightful mashup of Seinfeld and old school Danny Thomas (in "Make Room For Daddy") filtered through a French dude's plan to "épater le bourgeois".

Unfortunately, this middle class dude, with the advent of the internet, cannot be shocked.

I'm pretty sure Marc was laughing at him because he knows exactly what the fuck it feels like to be that impulsive and to get an idea like that and just burn yourself out in its execution before you can even begin to think about whether or not you should have ever put one foot in front of the other.

Hey Marc, I find it interesting that a man with so many neurotic tendencies laughs at what were obviously manic episodes that Louis experienced, especially buying a $1400 trumpet when he doesn't even know how to play. Kind of sad actually.

Loved this interview. In response to Dutch: To be a little more fair, there's more than one account that attempts to explain what happened to the Great Library. The one that supposedly occurred before Christ, whom it's never been proven existed in the first place, is just an assumption that when Caesar set fire to his ships, the flame spread to land and burned the library. This account was based on the misconception that the Great Library was near the port. All the other explanations for what happened, place the library's destruction in the Christian Era.

Marc: I'm pretty sure that you've told that story about Francis Ford Coppola on "The Tonight Show" saying "Do you have kids?" to another comic on your show before, and thus are confusing who told you that story.

I love Louis CK and loved this episode. Only objection is with Louis' history. The Romans burned the Great Library down. This happened before Jesus was born so to be fair Christians really aren't to blame.

That was great. I love Louis' comedy but I have trouble understanding how such a smart, insightful man could put a BMW on his credit card. Marc really hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that Louis seems to get himself in situations just to provide him with material. I think this might inspire more than one budding comedian to drop hot sauce on the floor of their apartment.
Can't wait for Part 2!
