The 2nd Annual ASA Student Writing Competition The Competition is NOW OPEN! Please read the guidelines and use the form below to submit. The Contest: The second annual ASA Student Writing Competition seeks entries of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction on topics about or related to science and spirituality. Appropriate topics include ethical questions in research, medicine, energy, and the environment, awe and wonder in nature and in the lab, as well as the joys and pitfalls of navigating the cross-section of science and faith.
Eligibility:
Must be a student working toward a bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree. Entrants need not be residents of the United States, but all entries must be submitted in English. No part of the material submitted may be previously published, nor can it be the winner or finalist of any previous writing contest. All of the work must be your own.
How to Submit:
Fill out the required form (below) and upload your documents. You may have up to two entries in each category. All entries must have a cover page that contains the following information:
Your Name
The Title of Your Piece
Category (fiction, nonfiction, or poetry)
Your School
Your email address
Your name MAY NOT APPEAR on any subsequent pages.
Please submit document in a Microsoft Word compatible format, and please do not use fonts larger than 12 pt. Please double space all prose.
Poetry may be up to 200 lines in length; fiction and creative nonfiction may not exceed 1500 words.
Entries must be received by midnight on March 15, 2013.
Judging:
Judging will take place through the end of March. Whichever submission our panel deems the best, most thought-provoking and emotionally mature piece of writing will receive the Grand Prize of $200. Three $50 Runner-up Prizes, one in each category, will also be awarded from among the entries, and the winning entries will be published in God and Nature News.
You will be notified by April 5, 2013, if your submission is selected by our judges.
The Fine Print:
You retain the copyright to your work, but ASA reserves the right to print, reprint, and distribute all submitted entries at any point in time, regardless of whether they are prize-winning pieces. Winning entries will be published in the ASA’s online magazine, God and Nature. |
