The desire to make a meaningful difference in the lives of students begins at the top with University President Troy D. Working with a wide range of internal and external constituencies, Dr. Paino provides overall leadership and direction for the University.

An Engaging Personality

Dr. Paino enjoys getting to know the bright and talented students who choose to make Truman their home away from home. In fact, he and his wife, Kelly, start out the year by hosting an annual Cookies and Lemonade Reception to welcome new students and their parents to the Truman family.

Dr. Paino can often be seen stopping to chat with students on the way to their next class, speaking at orientation events for transfer students and international students, and meeting with student groups to discuss University issues.

And he knows how to have fun as evidenced by a starring role in humorous videos letting students know just how much he misses them when they’re away on break.

Working with Intensity

The president’s high level of energy comes in handy for a busy schedule filled with activities ranging from traveling to the Missouri State Capitol and to Washington, D.C., to promote the interests of Truman; participating in national conversations related to the importance of higher education; visiting with alumni and friends of the University scattered throughout the country; and participating in multiple campus and community events. Dr. Paino takes a genuine interest in everything associated with the University holding events like Coffee with the President and regular All-University Meetings to ensure that he stays in touch with the entire Truman family.

The Pursuit of Learning

Dr. Paino began serving as president on May 10, 2010, armed with a strong passion for a liberal arts and sciences education like the one offered at Truman. His strong sense of purpose makes him the perfect steward for advancing the University’s mission—one that leads to the advancement of knowledge; freedom of thought and inquiry; and the personal, social and intellectual growth of Truman students.
