Research shows that people learn best when pursuing something they find personally meaningful and useful, in collaboration with peers and experts, and working towards mastery of a set of skills and/or body of knowledge in the real world.

The world of new technologies and media – and their potential for allowing self-motivated inquiry, collaboration and hands-on exploration – lends itself to this kind of learning and holds particular promise for those students whose needs are not getting met by the current educational system and market. We have drafted a working paper outlining our vision of what it means to design learning for the 21st century.
