Chim Chimney

A particular motorway I drive on often in the UK has a feature I have always wanted to find, a redbrick chimney. Not wanting to try and locate it in the dark and being on glorious daylight savings time (stupid Queenslanders), I started exploring at the leisurely time of 7pm.

Many of these chimneys were felled in the 70s and 80s as they posed a danger of collape. Check out this cool video and many more like it. However this particular chimney stands oddly alone in a small forest, about a 1km walk from the nearest road. No other structures are obviously visible. I can only surmise it is a listed building of some sort, part of a mill that was displaced by the construction of the motorway perhaps.

The base was quite overgrown and somewhat backfilled with soil. However you could still (just) access the interior in a commando crawl fashion. It is interesting to see how the interior surface of the bricks is far less finished than the smooth exterior. Sadly I did not have my fisheye lens with me, so ultra wide had to suffice.

This has “yo momma” jokes written all over it.

Perhaps the shots are a “waiting to be born” abstract.
