Dungeon

To me, Dungeon is a fairly interesting drain. So far I have only been down the left tunnel from the down stream entrance, the other two will have to come another time. Down the left tunnel there are plenty of side tunnels, my favorite of which is the one below, which features really loud banging sounds as cars run over the top of it and hit a slightly loose manhole or something. It was a blistering hot day and my mate Reaver came along with me on this one. He rocked up on his motorbike in true squid fashion with no protective gear (except helmet n gloves). The only bit that wasn’t quite true squid fashion was the light saber sticking out of his pants.

Maze

This place is sick! Murdoch and I went down here on a scorcher of a day and checked out most of the place. I totally understand all the hype about it now. If this is your city, get down there. The tunnels are sick and there’s a lot of rooms and variety to take in.

If you’re lucky like we were, someone will have left some candles down there in the Mister Men Room for ya!

Also, to whoever did this art work, nice bloody job! Love it.

Clan Tomb

The time it took for me to lose my drain virginity was long, way too long. I badly wanted to have a crack at light painting after having been inspired by many of the pros I’ve seen lurking around on the net. Also, the idea of popping up out of the ground in random places excited me in the pants.

It all started with Clan Tomb. Without packing cameras, a friend and I headed down there to see if the drain was any good, because its entrance is just a big, boring looking round concrete pipe (RCP). As it turns out the drain is pretty cool, and has quite a few spots that are easy to exit from. You can get out on the side of a street, in the middle of a park or in someones back yard. If you take the park exit and there’s a couple having a nice, romantic picnic nearby, trip them the fuck out by waving to them like we did as we slipped back into the underground. If you take the person’s back yard, prey that they’re not home and that there’s no dog. Luckily nobody (two or four legged) seemed to notice us bailing through their yard. I went back soon after with Murdoch and only a handful of things to light paint with, but the results were pleasing enough.

G.O.D

The first 100Ms of this place is great. After that, it’s pretty boring. The ladder of death is good fun, but the rest of the drain itself is long, pretty featureless and just isn’t worth venturing down in my opinion.

Sloths

This drain is pretty sweet! I met up with Man Underground, Murdoch and Krytie TV for this one. It’s got plenty of features like “stations” (parts where the drain suddenly gets bigger and changes shape dramatically for about 10-20 meters before going smaller once again), a heap of small tunnels in the walls and the odd staircase. We didn’t find anywhere to come up out of (that didn’t require lifting a proper manhole) like in Clan Tomb though which is a bugger. Never the less, this drain makes for a cool walk and photo shoot.
