Upon moving to Philadelphia, I challenged myself to draw one page of comics about every week that went by for my entire first year in a new city. I ended up drawing 2-3 pages a week, coming up with the 136 page book that I plan to self-publish.
Year One is about being in a new place, trying to convince yourself to be outgoing, reassuring yourself that going to bed at 9pm on a Friday night will not kill your social life, new adventures with new friends, being confident, exploring new relationships, keeping in touch with old friends, the highs of summer and the lows of winter, embracing community, tiptoeing toward new love, holding on to an old one, family, and friends that are like family, open relationships, punk community, companionship, loss and grief, appreciating home while searching for new variations of that word, and generally being a twenty-something year old trying to figure things out.
The entire book can be viewed here.
