“Closet Case Study,” my new monthly column about resourcefully revamping one’s wardrobe launches this week at The Cut.

The idea is that with limited cash, closet space, and environmental resources, perhaps we should spend a little less energy and money shopping for new stuff and a little more getting creative with what we’ve already got (which, if your closet looks anything like mine, is a lot).

My first patient: my mom’s hand-me-down fur, a ginormous double-breasted muskrat coat from Neiman-Marcus, circa 1989. Remodeling it with a midtown furrier turned out to be rather expensive, but the economics and ethics of a new fur would have been far tougher to negotiate. Read all about it – and please, leave your comments – at the Cut!

If there’s anything you’d like to see in future Closet Case Studies, please shoot me an email: jenniavins [at] gmail.com!
