Artist Feature of the Week - Keith “Stix” Mc Jimson

Born in Los Angeles, CA, Keith “Stix” Mc Jimson started playing the drums at the age of 5. His musical roots began in a Baptist church where he was taught that having a great sense of groove, time, creativity, and feel while supporting the music are the key ingredients to being a great drummer. These concepts have molded Stix into being the great session and live drummer that he is today. Stix has shared the stage with artist such as Ariana Grande, Will Smith, Mark Ballas, Gavin Degraw, Tori Kelly, Big Sean, Mac Miller, Charice, Rachael Lampa, Elliott Yamin, Anthony Evans, Israel Houghton and more.

Hey Stix! What are your thought’s on Yamaha’s Drums? “When I think of Yamaha’s legacy I think about CONSISTENCY. Yamaha’s products are not only great but they have been consistent for many years. No matter where I am in the world, every time I play a Yamaha Kit it is consistent, and it allows me to be productive on the gig. No matter the genre, Yamaha gets the job done for me.”

Yamaha Percussion Factory Tour Part 4

Featuring Yamaha Artist and Drum Corps legend Bret Kuhn, along with Yamaha Product Manager, Joel Tetzlaff, these fun-to-watch videos showcase the various production facilities where Yamaha Percussion instruments are born. In each of the four videos, viewers are introduced to the processes that help create various Yamaha instruments including marching drum shells. The tours also show how mallet keyboard instruments are tuned and constructed; and how timpani bowls are formed and put together.

Back in October I documented a remarkable project for Yamaha that showcased one this generations’ phenomenal pianists and some of Yamaha’s impressive technology.
Frederic Chiu is one of those pianists that you simply must hear. His interpretations, touch and musicality are all stunning. He is celebrating 25 years as a Yamaha Artist and, in celebration, he and Yamaha put together a truly unique recital.
