GrowMap Anti-SpamBot Plugin For WordPress a Must For Any Blogger

One of the things that can really get on your nerves when your blog gets more and more popular is the incessant amount of spam that keeps landing in your WordPress comments.
Ok so you may have Akismet running in your list of [intlink id=”tips-bloggers-commentators” type=”post”]Wordpress Plugins[/intlink], but to be honest it’s just not good enough and as mentioned by Gail at @GrowMap, Akismet can be a culprit of the dreaded white page of death on WordPress. So how about adding something in your WordPress Plugins that can really help.
Now thanks to Andy Bailey from CommentLuv there is a brilliant WordPress Plugin that can combat the dreaded Spam.
The GrowMap Anti-SpamBot Plugin is such a simple but very effective deterrent to the pesky bot spam that you get with a WordPress blog.
Why Use the GrowMap Anti-Spambot Plugin?
- No false positives – your favorite commentators and new readers WILL be able to easily comment in your blog.
- Blocks spam that Akismet was letting through. We are getting ZERO bot spam. Only those commenting manually who check the “I am not a spammer box” can leave comments.
- Easier for commentators than using a Captcha or math plugin – never a “wrong” answer that isn’t wrong or a problem with cookies!
Why Not Just Use Akismet?
- Large numbers of bloggers and regular commentators who never spam have been flagged by Akismet as spammers.
- Any commentator who has been flagged as a spammer is treated rudely by your blog. They never see the message your comment is being moderated so they have no way of knowing what happened to their comment.
- If you have a particular box checked in the Akismet configuration, comments left for real people who have been flagged incorrectly as commentators in posts more than 30 days old are immediately deleted and they see a blank white page. See how to turn off Akismet Comment deletion.

Do you use this in conjunction with Akismet, or instead of? I would think a spam bot would analyze the form fields and easily figure out how to bypass the checkbox in time.
I’m using both at the moment, just in case
But since using the GrowMap plugin, I’ve not had a single SpamBot comment 
I’m using both Akismet and Anti Spam Bee. For me Akismet latest version too sensitive. I have receive complain visitor unable to leave a comment
I just saw a short write about this on amplify, then I see you have a nice post on it.
I think this plugin is really going to take off.
I tend to get alot of junk comments, one’s were the comment is some what valid but the link and email address are total spam. Never sure what do do with those.
It’s working brilliantly for me at the moment, I highly recommend all WordPress bloggers to use it
Gail must be over the moon now she finally has something that works
I know she was getting more spam to deal with every day than I get visitors and it was really tiring her out. The more people that trial it the more the word will get out.

Karen, I absolutely LUV the GASP plugin. As you said, I haven’t seen a spam comment since installed it. What a time saver!
There might be a few kinks that need to be ironed out as time goes by, but I have a lot of confidence in Andy that this is the perfect solution. I think some people take for granted the awesome work he has done with CommentLuv and the TwitterLinks plugin that he also created. Personally I think he is a brave soul to take on those nasty spambots and win! Thanks for this post Karen, you’ll see that I created a screencast for it too. Have a great spambot free weekend!
Andy certainly is a brave soul, but his plugins are probably the most useful ones to have on any blog
I’m gonna have a go with this plugin myself. I spend a fair amount of time deleting junk comments across all of my blogs. If this will reduce that workload. I’m for it. I will give it a try on my most commented blog first.
