Chex and Skor Snack Mix

Chex and Skor Snack Mix

spacer

I love finding new snacks to make and try. When I saw this Reindeer Food, I just knew I wanted to try it. I’m not a big fan of candy canes or peppermint candy, so I changed the recipe a little bit to make it into a Chex and Skor snack mix.

To make the Chex and Skor snack mix, you will need:

  • 6 cups Honey Nut Chex cereal or any other type of Chex cereal
  • 1 bag (12 oz) white vanilla baking chips (2 cups)
  • 1/3 cup coarsely crushed Skor Bits

spacer

Although I have white chocolate chipits in the picture above, I actually used some white chocolate wafer discs left over from another recipe and used those instead.

We used a kitchen scale to measure out 12 oz of the white chocolate wafers into a plastic bowl.

Then we microwaved the white chocolate for about 1 and a half minutes, stopping to stir the chocolate every 30 seconds, until it was fully melted.

Sammie helped me measure out 6 cups of Honey Nut Chex cereal and poured it into the bowl of melted chocolate. Then we mixed it together, trying to make sure all of the cereal was coated with chocolate.

spacer Then we put in about half of the 1/3 cup of Skor bits and mixed some more.

spacer I lined a large cookie sheet with wax paper and then we dumped the chex and skor snack mix onto the wax paper. We spread it evenly around and then sprinkled the rest of the Skor bits over top.

spacer We let the Chex and Skor snack mix sit until it was hardened and then we broke it into smaller pieces and stored it in a food container. But first we snacked on some of it spacer It was so good that it was hard to stop eating it spacer

If you don’t like Skor bits, you could use crushed peppermint candies, crushed nuts, or really any kind of crushed candies. It also tastes really good without anything else to it other than the cereal and chocolate spacer

Here is the recipe:

  • 6 cups Honey Nut Chex cereal or any other type of Chex cereal
  • 1 bag (12 oz) white vanilla baking chips (2 cups)
  • 1/3 cup coarsely crushed Skor Bits
  1. Measure white chocolate chips into a large microwaveable bowl. Place in microwave and heat for at least 1 minute 30 seconds, stopping to stir every 30 seconds. Keep doing this until chocolate is fully melted.
  2. Add 6 cups of Chex cereal to melted chocolate. Fully coat cereal with chocolate.
  3. Add half of 1/3 cup of Skor bits to mixture.
  4. Line large cookie sheet or countertop with wax paper. Dump mixture onto wax paper and spread evenly
  5. Sprinkle remainder of Skor bits over top of cereal and chocolate mixture.
  6. Let sit until fully hardened. Break into smaller pieces and store in an airtight container.

Melt and Pour Scrubbie Soap

Mommy Craft – Melt and Pour Scrubbie Soap

spacer I hope you don’t mind if I share another melt and pour soap that I’ve been making. I love these melt and pour scrubbie soaps spacer The kids really like using them in the shower. It’s such a fun way to get them to use lots of soap and have fun at bath and shower time.

To make these melt and pour scrubbie soaps, you will need a clear melt and pour base, some soap colouring, skin safe frangrance, a bath scrubbie, a little bit of duct or other large tape, small spray bottle of rubbing alcohol and a silicone cupcake wrap. You could buy most of these supplies at any craft store. If you don’t have a silicone cupcake wrap, you could use a small plastic cup or anything that is similar in shape.

I used a pink bath scrubbie, red colouring and a light rose fragrance.

spacer Start by wrapping tape around your scrubbie, leaving the bottom half loose.
spacer

To figure out how much soap base you will need, fill your mold with water and pour the water into your measuring cup and marking how much water it is. Or if you have a kitchen scale, place your mold on the scale, zero it out and fill with water, then place your measuring cup on the scale, zero it out and then put the same amount of soap base into the measuring cup. Or you could just guess spacer
Melt your soap base by cutting into small 1″ square pieces and placing in a microwave safe measuring cup. Microwave in short amounts of time, about 20 seconds at a time until it’s liquid. Be very careful not to let the soap base boil or start to foam.

Once your soap base is melted, add your colouring and then scent. Pour your melted base into your mold, about half to three quarters full and spray with alcohol.

spacer

Spray the loose end of your bath scrubbie with alcohol (this will help the scrubbie to stick to the soap). Stick the loose part of the scrubbie into the soap. You may have to use a toothpick to push it further into the soap. Hold the scrubbie for a few seconds until the soap starts to harden. Spray the soap with alcohol again and fill the remainder of your mold with soap.

Let it sit until fully hardened, about twenty mintues to half an hour.

spacer Once the soap is fully hardened, remove your soap from the mold and carefuly remove the tape from the scrubbie.

Fluff out the scrubbie and then your melt and pour scrubbie soap is ready to use spacer

spacer These scrubbie soaps are so much fun to use and when the soap is gone, you still have a very useful bath scrubbie to continue using or you could add another soap to it.

Another way to make a melt and pour scrubbie soap, is to use a taller mold, like a plastic cup, place the entire scrubbie into the cup and then completely cover with soap. With this method though, the scrubbie isn’t usable until the soap is mostly gone.

I think these melt and pour scrubbie soaps would look so cute if one of the scrubbies with the little toy attached at the top was used, especially if you are making one of these for a child.
