An estimated 1.3 million people die from lung cancer every year. Most of these deaths are due to the fact that this cancer is often detected during the advanced stages. A simple blood test may change all that. A new study suggests that a specific genetic profile for lung cancer can be detected in the blood with 88 percent accuracy. Not only can it detect the disease, it can indicate whether the disease will present itself within two years. The study was conducted at the University Clinic Cologne. The findings will be presented at the at the meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
