Alison Lowenstein is the author of City Weekends: The Greatest Escapes and Getaways in and Around NYC, City Kid New York: The Ultimate Guide for NYC Parents ages 4-12, and City Baby Brooklyn,  and the editor of Gothamist Getaways and the Brooklyn expert at About.com. She has written for National Geographic Traveler, Departures, American Way, Arrive, Porthole, NY Daily News, Newsday, Lilith, Wild Blue Yonder, Time Out New York, Time Out New York Kids, AOLTravel.com, TravelandLesiure.com, Babble.com, Marieclaire.com, Parenting.com, Offmetro.com, New York Times’s City Room blog, and written for many other publications and websites. In addition, she’s written stories for the 5-Minute Marvel Stories, 5-Minute Spider-Man Storybook, The Avengers Storybook collections, as well as paperbacks, film novelizations, and TV tie-ins for Disney’s Marvel Books. Using a pen name, she currently writes a middle grade fiction series, which has spent numerous months on the Publishers Weekly bestseller list. Her short stories appeared in Fiction, The Brooklyn Rail, Portland Review, The Melic Review, Wordsmitten, and other literary journals. She has had plays performed in New York and Los Angeles, including productions at the Abingdon Theatre’s Benefit Challenge and The Apron Strings Project. Her play Disconnect Olivia was a semifinalist in the 2014 Indie Boots Theatre Festival in Chicago. She is a member of the Dramatist Guild. A recreational runner, she ran the NYC Marathon in 2014.
