International
With more than a billion people with disabilities — 15% of the world’s population — they are one of the most disadvantaged and marginalised groups in society. They are routinely denied their most basic human rights — cut off from education, employment and healthcare. Many live in extreme poverty.
We proudly host the secretariat for the Leonard Cheshire Disability Global Alliance, a network of over 200 independently managed Cheshire organisations working in 54 countries across Africa, Asia, the Americas and Europe.
We take a unique approach to international development through:
- Innovative development programmes that transform the lives of disabled people in 12 countries in Africa and Asia through education, livelihoods and healthcare.
- Cutting edge campaigns that empower people with disabilities to bring about lasting change.
- World class research at our world renowned disability and inclusive development centre at University College London that improves policy, practice and programmes.
