Overview

This intensive briefing day is designed to introduce the latest research, practice and education programmes of the Institute for Manufacturing (IfM). It also provides a forum for the fruitful exchange of ideas and an opportunity to explore possible collaborations.

Attendees will be able to meet IfM researchers from across the whole spectrum of manufacturing, from R&D and design to supply, production and service.

Our team of practitioners will describe some of our recent collaborations, where research-based tools and techniques have been applied in both industrial contexts and in the public sector.

Registration for the event will commence at 09.15, with the event starting at 09.45. A buffet lunch will be provided. The day will draw to a close at 17.00.

Format

The event will be split into parallel sessions throughout the day with opportunities to explore further topics with individual researchers and practitioners.

Institute for Manufacturing (IfM)

The IfM is part of the University of Cambridge's Department of Engineering. It provides a unique environment for the creation of new ideas and approaches to modern industrial practice.

The IfM brings together expertise in management, technology and policy to address the full spectrum of industrial issues. Research is undertaken in close collaboration with companies, ensuring its relevance to industrial needs.

A University-owned company, IfM ECS, applies research-based tools and techniques via a programme of education and consultancy services, providing a rapid dissemination route for new ideas and helping to inform and fund future research. Experienced practitioners work with:

Location

The Briefing Day will be held at the Institute for Manufacturing in Cambridge. There is easy access from the A14 and M11 and free car parking is available. A map and information on local hotels will be sent with joining instructions or can be found here.
