New York City Transit Reminding Customers About Platform Safety

As a reminder to riders, MTA New York City Transit is reissuing a series of car cards and a MetroCard urging customers to: Stand back. Don’t become a statistic. Printed in five languages, the car cards utilize NYC Transit’s well-known red and green pictograms which outline safe (green) and unsafe (red) behaviors. This message will also be electronically displayed on MetroCard Vending Machine screens.

Half-Million E-ZPass On-the-Go Tags Sold Since Program's Induction

Sales of MTA Bridges and Tunnels' popular On-the-Go tags in cash lanes reached a major milestone with the purchase of the 500,000th tag since the program began in 2011, as new signs at toll plazas showing the substantial discounts available for E-ZPass customers have spurred sales of the popular tags. “This shows that efforts to get people to switch to E-ZPass and maximize their toll dollars are working,” said MTA Bridges President James Ferrara. “We will continue to encourage drivers to make the most of the E-ZPass programs provided by MTA Bridges and Tunnels to find what works best for them.”

Free Transfer Now Available for Customers Impacted by Weeknight and Weekend Work on the L Line

Good news for weekend riders of the [L] train. Starting Friday, April 24 -- New York City Transit is providing a free MetroCard transfer from the Broadway [G] to the Lorimer St [J][M] station for the time periods when the line is not running from Brooklyn to Manhattan (weeknights until 5/22 and weekends until 5/18). The free transfer will provide [L] line customers with an additional option to and from Manhattan while NYC Transit personnel continue construction work on the [L] Line and comes as a result of a request from State Senator Martin Dilan, State Senator Daniel Squadron, Assembly Member Joseph Lentol, Assembly Member Maritza Davila, and Councilman Stephen Levin. The free transfer will only be available during the time periods that service on the [L] is suspended.

Governor Cuomo announced today that the Federal Railroad Administration has approved a loan of $967.1 million to begin the work. The loan, which is the largest and lowest-cost financing for the MTA, will finance the installment of positive train control, a technology designed to remove the potential for human error that can lead to train-involved accidents.

Zerega Av and Buhre Av 6 Stations Reopen After Renewal Project

Zerega Av and Buhre Av [6] stations reopened Monday, April 27 as the MTA has substantially completed the rehabilitations, which were part of a five-station renewal project on the Pelham Line. The two subway stations will reopen for service in both directions at 5 a.m. on Monday, April 27.

Twelve New Round Trips Per Day Will Accommodate Increased Ridership

With subway ridership surging across the city, MTA New York City Transit plans to increase scheduled service on the [2] [7] [L] and [M] lines in December, resulting in more frequent subway trains and shorter wait times for customers. Almost all of the additional service will be scheduled during off-peak hours, which showed the highest growth last year as the subway moved more than 1.75 billion customers, the highest ridership in over 65 years.

Marine Parkway Bridge Work To Reconstruct Rockaway Point Overpass Set To Begin

Governor Cuomo Announces Completion of Energy Efficiency Project at Grand Central Terminal

To celebrate Earth Week, the MTA is hailing its largest-ever energy-efficiency project, which will save $2.5 million in annual energy costs at Grand Central Terminal. The upgrades will reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions by more than 11,200 tons a year—the equivalent of removing roughly 2,140 cars from the road. The more than 750,000 people who pass through Grand Central daily will benefit from improved air quality and better climate control.
