Paul Brown – Anchor

Now entering his silver anniversary as a journalist, Paul Brown reports the news to Central Texas viewers as YNN Austin’s midday anchor and the anchor of Capital Tonight. Paul started his newsgathering experience in Austin as a graduate of the University of Texas and today serves the community both in and out of the newsroom.

Before arriving to YNN in 2003, he was news director and anchor at KTXS-TV in Abilene, TX. During his 10 years there, he helped lead his news staff to numerous awards including a four-year span when his colleagues won a record 65 Texas Associated Press Broadcasters awards.

Over the years, judges with the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters have also recognized Paul as one of the state’s top anchors and reporters. His reporting for the News 8 documentary on the 40th anniversary of the University of Texas tower shooting earned him a Lone Star Emmy nomination, two regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio-Television News Directors Association, and two TAPB honors.

Political reporting is a staple of Paul’s career. As a reporter at WROC-TV in Rochester, NY, he interviewed presidential candidate Bill Clinton, former vice presidential nominee Geraldine Ferraro, and New York Governor Mario Cuomo. While a reporter in Abilene, he also sat down with Texas gubernatorial candidate Ann Richards in 1990. In 2006, he interviewed every candidate running for Texas governor. And during the most recent presidential campaign, he had the chance to interview Hillary Clinton via satellite. Paul has also moderated numerous forums featuring state and local candidates.

Service to his profession and the community remains an important aspect of Paul’s life. He has served as chairman of the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters, and has judged numerous journalism competitions. He also serves on the board for the non-profit groups, Texas Hearing and Service Dogs and Neighborhood Longhorns Program.

Paul has a B.S. in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin. He received his master’s degree from UT’s School of Journalism, where he is currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program.

When not at work or school, Paul spends time with his wife and three sons, who are busy with their own elementary, high school and college activities.

Sarah has been with the YNN family since 2004. She is a native New Yorker and graduated from Syracuse University’s S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications with a BS in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science.

Sarah began her journalism career at Time Warner’s YNN Albany channel. While in New York, Sarah produced statewide coverage of the 2008 presidential election and coverage of the U.S. Senate special election.

Sarah joined YNN Austin in August of 2009 as a Senior Producer and became the evening Executive Producer in 2010. A year later, she turned her focus to politics and helped launch YNN’s live political show, Capital Tonight and political blog, Capital Roundup.

When she’s not in the control room, Sarah loves getting out in the field. Some highlights included field producing the Presidential Inauguration, the Republican and Democratic National Conventions and YNN’s “9/11 Ten Years Later Texas-centric coverage from New York City.
