Azalea Software

20 years and counting
spacer

Azalea Software, Inc is a barcode font foundry located in Seattle, Washington, US.

Azalea founder Jerry Whiting learned PostScript when he worked for Aldus in the good old PageMaker days. His late night kitchen table hacks resulted in the ElseWare Barcode Kit, published by Ben & Clyde of 728 Club fame. Azalea Software was born in 1992.

Why 'Azalea'? Because Squid totaled the car in Azalea, Oregon (97410). Azaleas make for a really nice logo (thanks Ole). And Jerry loves flowers.

In June of 2013, long-time Azalea sales director Miranda Pinero took over the role of president and CEO. Jerry will stay on with Azalea as mentor and technical guru, though he'll now have plenty of time to pursue his multitude of interests, creative pursuits and flights of fancy. You can (try to) keep up with him at his blog, Jet City Orange.

We like our jobs and take real pride in what we do. We’re both old-school digital font foundry and contemporary telecommuters, working with laptops and cell phones at our favorite neighborhood coffee joint. Assisted by a small band of coding co-conspirators, our corporate culture can be described as aggressively family-friendly. We work smart, not hard. Our mission is to meet the world with good humor, loving compassion and darn good barcode software.
